The Paluxy River Hamilton is a limestone and shale stream located in Williamson County, Texas. The stream is approximately 12 miles long, and it flows through the communities of Keystone Heights, Denton, and Paluxy. The Hamilton formation was deposited during the Middle Jurassic period. The stream has been studied for over forty years, and many scientists believe that it contains evidence of an ancient creature known as the Paluxy River Monster.
The first reports of the Paluxy River Monster were made in 1838 by Major Stephen F. Austin. He was traveling along the river when he saw a large rock moving across the water. He later discovered that the rock was being moved by some sort of animal. Austin called this creature the Paluxy Monster, and he claimed that it was fifteen feet long and weighed two hundred pounds.
Over the next few years, other people reported seeing the Paluxy Monster. In 1841, a group of men attacked the creature while it was swimming in the river. They shot at it but did not manage to kill it. In 1872, Dr. Jno Hutton conducted a scientific investigation of the river and concluded that there was no evidence of a monster living there. However, many people continue to believe in the existence of the Paluxy River Monster.
